SeaTools is developed by Seagate Tech., which is a powerful diagnostic utility featuring multiple types of tests and scans to measure out the disk drive health. The comprehensive testing mechanism will help you to find out complete disk condition along with offering some advanced options to fix issues in case of some bad test results. Option 2: Seagate SeaTools. Major disk manufacturers usually provide their own disk diagnostic tools, which allow extensive surface testing, low-level formatting, and defective sector remapping. Seagate has introduced two hard drive diagnostic programs – SeaTools for DOS and SeaTools for Windows.

Seagate SeaTools is an official tool from the maker of Seagate hard drives, designed to help you identify possible problems in your machine's disk drives, or any other external drive that you may connect from time to time.
Seagate SeaTools examines the physical surface of the disks in search of problems that may cause the disks to malfunction.
There aren't very many basic tests that you can run, but you can adjust the intensity of the tests according to your needs. Additionally, you can have all the information associated with the disk up on your screen (model number, series number, firmware version, SMART, etc...), or run an advanced test that could even erase certain information that you have stored.
Lastly, Seagate SeaTools also directly connects with some Microsoft system tools that come installed with Windows, but that you may never have even heard of, like the tool to eliminate malicious software, or the one that helps you manage hard drives.

Seagate SeaTools is free hard drive testing software. SeaTools for DOS runs independent from your operating system on its own CD or bootable USB drive. You do not need to own a Seagate or Maxtor hard drive to use SeaTools.

  1. Download the SeaTools for DOS ISO file
  2. Use 7-Zip to open the SeaTools for DOS ISO file.
  3. Extract the SeaTools.ima file to your hard drive.
  4. Rename the SeaTools.ima file to SeaTools.img.
  5. Use Image Writer for Windows to write the SeaTools.img image file to a USB drive on Windows.
  6. Now you can boot off of this USB drive and run SeaTools for DOS.

Note: Writing the SeaTools for DOS ISO file directly to a USB drive using either Rufus or UNetbootin does not work. When doing so I receive a “BOOTMGR is missing” error message when booting off of the USB drive.
